Analysis :

Predominantly, Nenu Naa Rakshasi is a screenplay based movie with a wafer-thin storyline linking with suicidal concept. And we have to say Puri Jagannath failed miserably yet again to narrate the concept in a convincing way. Nenu Naa Rakshasi gives you glimpses of Pokiri theory but Puri Jagganath was not successful to narrate a similar script. The storyline is unique and but the movie lacked emotion and failed to convince the audience and in the end it became anemic.

Puri Jagannath sketched the characters with great conviction and that's clearly visible in his narration. However, the characters failed to depict and lack conviction. Typical Puri Jagannath dialogues take center stage but the same dialogues look ludicrous in certain emotional scenes. The director's style of taking and flavor is visible all across but Nenu Naa Rakshasi is a very badly portrayed script.

The suicide ‘formula’ has not been adhered well for the script and execution has gone horribly wrong. Rana and Ileana failed to create the required rigor and emotions in this movie. Albeit their on-chemistry is good the director could not sketch their characters further beyond talking about suicide and death.

TeluguOne Perspective :

Nenu Naa Rakshasi is a very dull anecdote and you'll be flabbergasted to see such a shocking narration from Puri Jagannath. Being bad has never been this worse as Daggubati Rana comprehensively gives it up in his dance or emotional quotient. The hype that's created around the hero and his profession is huge but Puri could not justify hero's characterization and convince . And when we cut across to denouement its even worse and we hear people laughing in the theaters towards the climax.

Puri Jagannath once again comes with a repetitive tempo and the screenplay is very weak particularly towards the second half – it was unbearable and one wonders why Venice was being chosen. Nenu Naa Rakshasi movie's single most crucial factor 'concept of suicide' comes as a snag through the entire length of the movie thereby ruining the whole script.

Puri Jagannath was not successful in climbing the next step in the script ladder and this surely may be his most pitiable script to date as he leaves an impression that's pretty hard to take. The director is again original, creative and daringly different but he looks imbecile if the cast cannot support his directorial works and Nenu Naa Rakshasi is a classic example of his worst depiction. Looks like Jagan tailor made this Nenu Naa Rakshasi story to Daggubati Rana but there are many glitches and blunders in the narration. One just gets the feeling that Puri Jagannath should have handled the script in a lot better way.

Plus Points

  • Rana's characterization
  • Background score
  • Cinematography

Minus Points

  • Ileana's performance
  • Weak narration (second half)
  • Ridiculous Climax

Performances

Daggubati Rana revels in an author-backed role. His insouciance and cultivated elegance polishes the character. He is decidedly first rate in the role of a patented baddie and does it with practiced ease. There's lot of maturity in his voice but he needs to improve a lot in emotional scenes. Ileana is looking gorgeous, and stunning. She has definitely upped the ante in her acting skills but Puri Jagannath did not use her in the right spirit. She was preaching more on death and suicide and it did not connect the audience. Subba Raju has done well as a cop. Ali's character is routine and people are tired to see Ali in the same pattern for a Puri Jagannath's movie.

Technicalities

Music by Vishwa and Rahman is alright but the background music by Anoop Rubens is to be admired. Cinematography by Amol Rathod is terrific and few action sequences with Rana were fabulously shot. Editing by Sekhar should have been better and what can he do when the script itself is poor. Production values by Lakshmi Narasimha are very high.

Bottom Line

Nenu Naa Rakshasi is framed to be a mass extravaganza but the movie ended up being a dull and poorly scripted movie. The director failed to convince the audience with weak narration.
